Roles, Goals & Policies

Omaha Piano Coach offers piano lessons exclusively through the revolutionary Simply Music curriculum.  Simply Music promises breakthrough results and we are committed to achieving those results with our students.  This requires a cooperative effort between student, teacher,  and parent (if student is a child).  These policies are designed to facilitate the entire process and ensure that your investment in this lifelong skill yields the highest return.

Fundamental Goal of Simply Music

To maximize the likelihood of students acquiring

and retaining music as a lifelong companion.

Toward this end, the four specific Simply Music goals are for students to:

·        Experience playing as a natural self-expression.

·        Play a vast repertoire covering a broad array of musical styles and genres.

·        Develop the ability to self-generate (i.e. the ability to progress independently).  This includes developing a foundation of music reading, writing, composition, improvisation, arrangement, structure, theory etc.

·        Have a highly positive, self-affirming experience throughout the music learning process.

Parent’s Role

·        Provide an instrument that is in good condition.

·        Ensure that all assignments are completed in the week between classes and that the playlist is checked during practice.

·        Meet financial commitments by the due date.

·        Support and encourage your child’s or your own progress by attending lessons.  Parent attendance is required for students aged 15 or younger.  Please restrict use of electronic and wireless devices to emergencies only.

·        Commit to a long-term relationship with piano lessons and structured practice at home.

Student’s Role

·        Maintain your playlist.

·        Follow your teacher’s instructions carefully.

·        Practice 15-20 minutes per day, 5-6 days per week.  After the first year, this will typically increase to 30-35 minutes per day.

·        Be courteous and respectful to everyone present in class.

Practice

·        It is important that the student practices on the same day of the lesson to reinforce what was learned.

·        The student home materials must be utilized as directed by your coach.

·        The playlist must be kept alive, marked daily and turned in at each lesson.  Parents are accountable for ensuring this happens if the student is not an adult.

·        A specific practice system is used (beginning in Level 2) which helps students achieve the most efficient use of their practice time.  All students are required to use this system as directed by the coach.

Evaluation

·        Parents will monitor their child’s progress on an ongoing basis at home.

·        Parents and/or students may schedule a consultation with piano coach.

·        When a student advances to a new level, the Teacher Evaluation form should be completed (parent and student may complete this together).  The forms will be collected at the first lesson of the new level.

Performances

·        Opportunities will be provided several times a year for students to share their talents.  This encourages them to excel, play with confidence and have a self-affirming experience.

·        Weekly classes also give students the opportunity to play for others, increasing their comfort and confidence levels, as well as providing a social setting in which to share music.

Referral Bonus

·        Receive $50 for each person you refer who enrolls at Omaha Piano Coach!  Bonuses are awarded after the referred student has paid for the second month of lessons.  Bonuses can be in the form of cash or applied to monthly tuition.

Lesson Time, Location and Schedule

·        Shared lessons are 30-50 minutes, depending on the number of students in your class.

·        Lessons are offered at an in-home studio at 15140 Redwood ST (near 151st and Harrison).

·        Lessons are offered on a year-round basis, 46 weeks out of the year.

Tuition

·        Tuition for shared lessons is $85 per month as figured below:

o   Lessons are provided weekly on 46 weeks out of the year.

o    Tuition is $22 per session.  $22 x 46 weeks = $1012.

o    $1012 divided by 12 months is $85 per month.

o   Based on the formula above, teacher vacations are NOT paid by students.

o   The six weeks of no lessons will be divided up as follows:

§  Three weeks of no classes due to holidays

·        Week between Christmas and New Year’s Day (12/25/11-1/1/12)

·        Week before Easter and  Millard Schools Spring Break (4/2/12-4/8/12)

·        Week of Fourth of July (7/2/11-7/6/11)

§  Three weeks of dates TBA.  These dates may include:

·        Days your coach is ill

·        Cancellations due to weather

·        Unforeseen circumstances

§  If for some reason all six weeks have been used up and your lessons are cancelled for any reason (weather, coach’s illness or family emergency etc.) then Omaha Piano Coach will credit the lesson missed (total of $22).

§  Again, you are not paying your coach for ANY of these six weeks.

·        Lessons are most effective in a shared lesson environment.  However, private lessons can be arranged in special circumstances.  Tuition for private lessons is $125.00 per month.

Lesson Materials

·        Student Home Materials cost is $45 per level for the foundation program.  Auxiliary programs begin in Level 2.  The cost varies depending upon the program but will not exceed $28 for the auxiliary program materials.

·        Tuition is due in advance on the first day of each month.  Please make checks payable to Omaha Piano Coach.  Payment by credit card is also accepted via Paypal.  See OmahaPianoCoach.com to enroll.  Late payments may be charged a $10 late fee.

·        Occasionally an extra private session may be necessary.  There is a $30 charge for each 30-minute private session.

Discontinuing Lessons

·        If you must discontinue lessons for any reason, a 30-day notice is required.  Tuition refunds cannot be issued for this 30-day period.

Missed Lessons

If you must miss a lesson:

·        Please contact your teacher prior to the missed lesson if possible (by phone, email or text).

·        It is the responsibility of the student or parent to contact a classmate or Omaha Piano Coach for class notes and clarification of assignments.

·        You will have the opportunity to attend a make-up session.  There will be a scheduled time (outside of regular class time) each month set aside for covering missed material.

·        No credit is issued for missed lessons (but you may attend a make-up session).

Inclement Weather Policy

·        In the event area schools are closed due the weather, a determination will be made by noon regarding whether lessons will be held.  Please check email for updates.

·         In the case of inclement weather and the studio remains open, you can opt not to attend that day.  Please contact your piano coach for missed lesson information.  You will have the option to attend the scheduled monthly make-up session.

·        Every effort will be made to try to keep you informed about closures due to weather.  Feel free to email, call or text if unsure.

·        A few days for miscellaneous cancellations are built into the schedule for snow days, teacher sick days etc.  Once those days have been exceeded, credit will be issued at the rate of $22 per cancelled session.

Your Own Holidays and Vacations

·        There are several options available for your own vacation absences:

1.     Paying tuition to reserve your regular time slot.  You will return to the same class, provided the missed material is learned in a timely manner.

2.    Attend the make-up session for missed material.

3.    If absence is extended but you would like to continue with your class, schedule a few private sessions to get caught up.

4.    Discontinuing classes temporarily and re-enrolling with the appropriate level and available time slots.  Class placement would allow for review of material previously learned.  This may not be immediately available upon your return.

These policies have been carefully considered and are designed to afford Omaha Piano Coach the ability to operate as smoothly and efficiently as possible.  In this environment we have the greatest freedom the share the gift of music with our students and to help them achieve the breakthrough results promised by the Simply Music Program.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding these policies, please feel free to contact Angela Walter (angela@OmahaPianoCoach.com).

Thank you!
